RAC AUDITS
The three-year demonstration recovery audits (RACs) began April 2005 in New York, California and Florida. The contractor hired to audit Florida physicians is Health Data Insights, out of Las Vegas, Nevada. These auditors will be paid based on a percentage of their recovery. Physicians are worried, as well they should be, about the "bounty hunter" concept. Bottom Line encourages physician practices to be pro-active and to develop voluntary Corporate Compliance Plans, including Billing and Reimbursement Compliance. Implementing a compliance plan may be a physician's best defense should an audit reveal less than desirable results.
